City Council and P&Z Commission Vacancy

Two City positions vacant by resignation

Councilmember Teena Linder, elected in May of 2024, has submitted a letter of resignation from the City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission on July 31st, 2024, which became effective on August 8th, 2024. In accordance with Texas Local Government Code 22.010, the City Council will fill the vacancy on Council by appointment. If you are interested in serving on the Log Cabin City Council, applications will be available at City Hall beginning on Monday, August 12th, 2024.


The City Council meets for regular meetings the third Thursday of each month at 7pm, and as needed for special meetings and workshops.


All candidates for office in the City of Log Cabin must meet the following qualifications to serve on the City Council:


Per Texas Elections Code Section 141.001

(1) be a United States citizen;

(2) be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable;

(3) have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be:

(A) totally mentally incapacitated; or

(B) partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote;

(4) have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities;

(5) have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately preceding the following date:

(A) for a candidate whose name is to appear on a general primary election ballot, the date of the regular filing deadline for a candidate's application for a place on the ballot;

(B) for an independent candidate, the date of the regular filing deadline for a candidate's application for a place on the ballot;

(C) for a write-in candidate, the date of the election at which the candidate's name is written in;

(D) for a party nominee who is nominated by any method other than by primary election, the date the nomination is made; and

(E) for an appointee to an office, the date the appointment is made;

(6) on the date described by Subdivision (5), be registered to vote in the territory from which the office is elected; and

(7) satisfy any other eligibility requirements prescribed by law for the office.


The vacancy on the Planning & Zoning Commission will also be filled by City Council approved appointment. If you would like to serve on the Commission, please contact City Hall at 903-489-2195 or citysecretary@logcabin.texas.gov, or attend the meeting scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 12th, 2024 at 7pm. The P&Z Commission meets for regular meetings the second Thursday of each month at 7pm, and as needed for special meetings and workshops.

The Log Cabin City Council announced the vacant seats on the Council and Planning & Zoning Commission (P&Z) on August 8th, 2024, at a special Council meeting, after accepting the resignation of Teena Linder from City Council and the P&Z. Interested persons for either seat was asked to reach out to the City. Two individuals stepped forward expressing interest in the Council seat; Chris Martin and Paul Eckeberger. Three people volunteered for the P&Z seat; Chris Martin, Joe Clark, and Dave Peterson. At the October 3rd, 2024 Special City Council meeting, the City Council appointed Paul Eckeberger to the City Council vacant seat, term ending May 2025, and accepted the P&Z's nomination for Dave Peterson to fill the Commission's vacant seat via Resolution 24-15. Paul Eckeberger received his Certificate of Appointment and was sworn in at the October 17th, 2024 Regular City Council Meeting, and submitted a resignation letter from the Planning and Zoning Commission. Council appointed Joe Clark to fill the vacancy created by Mr. Eckeberger's resignation on the Planning and Zoning Commission via Resolution 24-19.

PUBLIC NOTICE The City of Log Cabin will hold a public hearing on Thursday, September 19th, 2024, at 7:00pm in City Hall located at 14387 Alamo Rd. Log Cabin, TX 75148 to discuss the 2024-25 proposed fiscal budget and proposed tax rate. Citizens unable to attend this meeting may submit their views and proposals to the City Secretary. Persons with disabilities that wish to attend this meeting should contact the City Hall to arrange for assistance. Individuals who require auxiliary aids or services for this meeting should contact the City Secretary at 903-489-2195 at least two days before the meeting so that appropriate arrangements can be made. SMALL TAXING UNIT NOTICE The City of Log Cabin will hold a meeting on Thursday, September 19th, 2024, at 7:00pm at City Hall located at 14387 Alamo Rd. Log Cabin, TX 75148 to consider adopting a proposed tax rate for tax year 2024. The proposed tax rate is 0.469999 per $100 of value. The proposed tax rate would increase total taxes in the City of Log Cabin by 2.78% (percentage by which the proposed tax rate exceeds the no-new-revenue tax rate).
